Tell about yourself - your personality, lifestyle, etc.
I'm a professor, writer, wannabe artist and student of many Spanish 1 classes. I have intellect and energy enough to get me through a very interesting life and by most reasonable standards am also financially secure. Twice married. Single since '90. I'm 64, happy, healthy, no paunch to speak of, witty, smart, chatty, playful, energetic, mostly gentle, sexual, inquisitive, gracious, I don't keep score, don't care for dating games and don't take myself too seriously. I live alone in a charming cottage home in the Studio City area of Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley with my cat, Mrs. Gato. Its a wonderful, cozy and very private place. I don't much care for sports but I know some people do so if need be I'll suffer my way through a ball game or two. I spend a lot of time at home mostly writing, pretending to garden and when the muse is elsewhere, take walks and browse arguably the best bookstore in the SFV. I also like massage, have taken a couple of classes and have my own table.

What kind of person are you interested in meeting?
I'm looking for a very special muse: someone with charm, a passion for ideas and me, who knows herself well, has thoughts about anything and everything, who reads, talks but listens too, is clever, patient, quick witted and witty; someone self-assured, physical, sensual, who finds joy in many things and experiences, is spiritual and above all playful and available.

What sort of relationship would you like at this point in your life.
I'm open to possibilities.

Which is your favorite Jewish holiday? How do you like to observe / celebrate?
Passover has always been my favorite holiday. Finding the matzos and siting through a 3 hour Sedar were the principle challenges when I was a kid. I'm not interested in the matzos hunt any longer and today I can't imagine 3 hours until the gefilte fish so I'm more selective about invitations.

How important a role did Judaism play in your life growing up? And now?
I know a lot about Yidishkeit. My dad was a kosher butcher and I still enjoy the Ashkenazi culture but I'm not especially religious.

What are your favorite things to eat (or what do you like to cook)?
I love grilled rubens made with pastrami! Oy! Not good but delicious.

Have you ever visited Israel? Describe your travels / experience there.
I visited Israel twice in the 1980s. I would like to do so again.

Where do you like to go out (on a date, with friends, to meet people)? Name some places.
I'm an eclectic dater...I have favorite ethnic restaurants. I also like to browse Borders or some other bookstore with someone I care about then end up in the coffee bar for coffee and a raisin oatmeal cookie! Sounds weird but its fun.

Name some of your all-time favorite music / movies / TV / books.
All time favorite films: 'Best of Show,' 'Where's Poppa?' 'Anne Hall,' 'Black Book,' 'Gone with the Wind.' 'Chinatown,' 'Pulp Fiction,' Favorite books -- 'A World lit only by Fire,' 'Pillars of the Earth,' 'Middlesex,' novels by Preston & Child and Philip Kerr, biographies and histories especially FDR, Churchill: too many to choose, Music: eclectic: Patsy Cline to Rolling Stones to Dylon to Puccini and everything in between.

What type of work do you do? Do you enjoy it?
I'm a writer and professor. When I'm not at the university I write mostly at home. I enjoy the freedom of working at my own pace.

What do you enjoy doing for fun?
Conversation, the Hollywood Bowl, music, theater, movies and browsing book stores... I also like the NY and LA Times on Sunday mornings with french roast coffee, pecan raisin bread from LaBrea Bakery, mushroom brei, good company and not rushing anywhere until afternoon. Snoozing in my hammock under the old elm in my back yard is fun too! Everything is fun with the right person.

What do you hate doing?
Shopping...

Tell about where you grew up or where you are from.
I grew up in the Midwest and it remains the core of who I am although I've lived in Los Angeles since 1967.

Do you have pets? Tell about them.
I'm in love with my cat. Mrs Gato is a Maine Coon, she's 17 lbs and always wanting to help (or under foot).

What would you say is your best virtue?
Passionate, fair and open.

What was the most daring / wild thing you have ever done?
Ask me about it

What terrifies you?
I don't do well with heights as in laddars and walking across bridges. But flying doesn't bother me.

If you were on a deserted island, and you could choose 3 items to take, what would they be?
Someone I love.

Your ultimate intimate dinner party would include which 3 guests (dead or alive)?
Steve Allen, Einstein, Charlemagne, Marlene Deitrich, Harry Truman and my college mentor, Dick Thomas.

How is your physical shape? What do you do to keep in shape?
I'm in good shape...keep weight down with walking, some gym work and pushing myself away from second helpings. I've kept 30# off for more than five years.

While looking at a person’s profile, following the picture, what are the first things you look for?
Pix, age, occupation, interests in that order!

What else should we know about you?
I'm planning to re-publish my favorite children's book. I read it dozens of time when I was 11 and 12. Its been out of print forever but because it was originally published in Britain in the 1940s and members of the author’s family are still alive they must give their permission. I'm in a holding pattern until I can find some unhurried time in London to check copywrites, etc. Ask me about it.
